1. What were some of the smells and tastes of your childhood?
The smell of the steam preservation train line a mile and a half away caught on the wind. The taste of proper slush puppies, when they were only a moderately stupid price for a tiny squirt of juice and some ice. Home made wimberry tarts made from berries picked on the hillside by our home.

2. What did you have as a child that you do not think children today have?
A clear understanding of exactly who was going to kill us. It was the Russians, with a hundred nukes, not all this "might be stranger danger, might be an entitled ass driving a car at you in the street, might be Russia, quite possibly a guy who thinks he's better than others if he refuses to wear a mask but has a brand new super mutation of covid, could be someone who says they are doing it in the name of a religion of love, or a proudly malicious actor on social media persuading you to do it to yourself... so be scared of everything and everyone".

3. What elementary grade was your favourite?
Not sure what that means, I think it might be an American schooling term. (Googles) Ah, which year in infants and junior schools was best. In that case the second year 3 aka the school year when you are nine years old. We had the best teacher, whose antics I am sure made the school head despair. This is not the post for them but I have such anecdotes from that class still, fifty years on.

4. What summer do you remember the best as a child?
The one we went to Sweden not quite in time for the midnight sun. Instead the sun set, then rose again twenty minutes later: much cooler than just bobbing up and down in the sky. Most of the others are a blur of being relieved I wasn't around schoolkids for a few weeks.

5. What one piece of advice would you give to your younger self, and at what age?
In my later teens: try to fall in love a little less with the cuties around you, they will not be worth it.
