How this comm works
There will be a set of five questions posted each Friday by one of the moderators on both LiveJournal and Dreamwidth. Please copy and paste them to your own journal, answer them there, and then post a comment to that week's Friday Five with a link to your journal entry. If your journal is "friends only," feel free to post your answers as a comment in that week's Friday Five.

We do our best to get the question sets up as early as possible each week, so that all of our members have the opportunity to see them on Friday in their timezone. Most of our moderators do seem to be in the US, so please bear that in mind as they are posting up each week's questions.

Membership
The only people with posting access in this community are the moderators. This is mentioned in the user info. The reason being is to prevent multiple postings every Friday PLUS to prevent people from posting entries such as "here's my friday five!" The only place to put your friday five results is in a comment to that week's questions.

Anyone can comment to the entries and you are more than welcome to suggest questions. We can't exist without your suggestions for question sets.

Please leave your question set suggestions on LiveJournal or Dreamwidth.

Questions, Comments, Concerns
If, at any time, you are having an issue with something here in the community, please feel free to contact the moderators for assistance.

Thank you.

Well, I made an attempt 6-ish months ago to resurrect this comm after a long bout of RL issues. As is evidenced by the lack of posts, that didn't quite work out. Once again, RL issues snuck up on me.

But we're back and we're going to make it stick this time. I've been in touch with the other moderators to see where they stand on returning with the rejuvenating comm. But I' also going to open this comm up to some new moderator blood.

In other words, we want you!

It's been quite a while since we last made a request like this.

We have positions open for additional moderators for [community profile] thefridayfive. Preferably we would like 2-3 people to add to our ranks at this time.

What does being a mod for this community entail? Depending on how many of our current mods return, you'll be responsible for 1 Friday every 4-6 weeks to post the question set for everyone to utilize. This can come from the suggestions post on either DW or LJ, or you can make up your own set. You can answer mod-type questions in your entries, or pass them along to me if needed.

As we have comms on both DW and LJ, we would prefer someone who has access to both journaling platforms, but that's not a deal breaker.

So if you're interested, leave a comment here or PM me with your interest.

Thank you!

Just wanted to drop a note to everyone to try to explain the comatose state of this comm over the last several months.

To put it bluntly, I let RL take precedence over the comm. A lot of stuff happened that made it difficult for me to find the spoons to deal with this comm. That includes getting schedules made up for the other mods to post question sets. It's not pretty, but it's the truth.

Thankfully, things have mostly settled for me now, so we're starting up again from scratch as of today. Here's hoping you still choose to come along for the ride with us.

Dear followers of [community profile] thefridayfive,

Massive apologies to one and all for not having a Friday Five for the entire month of July.

RL hit pretty hard in June and July, and the 3rd quarter scheduling fell to the wayside entirely unintentionally.

We will be starting up the Friday Five again as of Friday, 3 August 2012.

Again, massive apologies for this happening.

Now that the dust has settled after LJ's big introduction of community owners, I thought I'd write up a little state of the comm post.

First things first, it was determined that I become the community owner, but that really won't cause a whole lot of changes on the community. You'll still get your question set each week to answer, just like always.

[livejournal.com profile] apologiesqueen has stepped down as a maintainer of this community after filling that position for the last 7 years. She has been in charge of scheduling the moderator rotations for posting question sets each week. She will definitely be missed here in the community.

At the present time, [livejournal.com profile] andymydear and I will be posting your question sets on an alternating basis. We'll see how this works out for a month or two, then possibly open up the option for a new moderator or two. There will be more on this when and if new moderators are needed.

The icons and banners we used to have for you to use to link to us are no longer available as [livejournal.com profile] joshwaylon deleted his account some time ago. That said, I would like to extend an offer to anyone who is graphically inclined to make some icons and/or banners to be used for the community. I will need to work out some logistics re: this situation, including any kind of prize for the winner(s), so keep a lookout for a post on this topic in the very near future.

And lastly, if you have any questions, issues, or comments with the community, please feel free to leave a comment or PM me with them. I normally get back to all comments and PMs within 24 hours [usually very quickly].

And I think that's it for the time being...

We are closing [community profile] thefridayfive for people joining the community. By the end of the day today, the only people who will be "in" the community are the moderators. We are asking all of you that enjoy the community to "friend" the community instead.

What does this mean for you, our fans and friends? Absolutely nothing. You will notice no changes in what you can and cannot do in the community. You will still see every post and still be allowed to reply to each and every post and comment.

This is purely an adminstrative change. We're hoping that this cuts down on the confusion as to "how can I get posting access?" when people click on "join." People often confuse "posting access" with posting comments; "posting access" in this community is strictly for moderators, so we can control and keep tabs of what gets published every week. You'll notice other communities on Dreamwidth and/or Livejournal do the same thing; it's only to cut down on confusion. While only moderators can post the actual questions, we do ask for your suggestions for weekly sets.

Livejournal also has a limit to how many members may join a community. By closing the membership and requiring you to "friend" us, we're making it so that we don't ever have to reject anyone from the community. Click here to add the Friday Five to your friends list.

In short: we'll still post the questions every week and you can still reply to the posts and make suggestions for posts.

We appreciate how many of you have participated in the Friday Five. We started this community because we missed the Friday Five, and we know you did, too. We enjoy providing you with weekly sets, and I believe we're the only "Friday Five" community on Dreamwidth and/or Livejournal that allows people to suggest that week's set. That's why we are asking for your patience and understanding as we make this administrative change, as we're just trying to make this community the best that it can be.

Remember, if you'd like to suggest questions for a future Friday Five, then do so here: LJ or DW.
