Before I was a business owner, I was a chiropractic assistant. LOVED that job, and the doc I worked for. He was like my little brother, and we stay in touch today.
2) What did you like about it?
I've been a chiro patient since I was 21, and really believe in it. But also my old boss is someone I respect as a person. Unlike other docs I worked for, he doesn't believe the patients are allowed to say whatever they want to the staff--they're not always right. He stood up for me more than once, and when I became a boss, I followed in his footsteps. Soon after I started my own business, he said to me, "Your staff is an asset. YOU were an asset. Don't forget that." I haven't.
3) How can a kid become like you when they grow up?
Do what you love and the money (and freedom will follow). Don't listen to others. Just do it!
4) What safeguards do you use to avoid mistakes?
Getting enough sleep! Do you know that I read the chances of you making a mistake go WAY up if you don't get at least 6 and a half hours?
5) What's changed in the world that you've had a hard time keeping up with?
Working with millennials. Almost all of my staff are in this age bracket. I grew up in and worked as an employee in a learning and leadership model that was MUCH different. Sometimes it takes a bit for me to understand what they need to thrive in their positions. The good news is, I can be taught! I am taking a class now on how to lead them better. :)
Here are mine!
