1. What's the present you gave you're most proud of? Probably the bakers' stand I got for Sis to use as shelving in her music corner, it took me years to find one that went with the black metal music stand I bought her first, and that was the right size to fit.

2. What's the most memorable present you've received? Tickets to the music A Little Night Music; it was many years ago with a wonderful cast and had a big influence on my developing love of Sondheim. Others have taken the place of my favourite Sondheim musicals, but that's the only one I've seen live (yet).

And my first copy of Lowenthal's The Past is a Foreign Country. I had discovered this in the local university library and loved it to the point where I usually had one of their two copies out on loan at any time for a whole year… Sis noticed, and got me my very own:)

3. How many people do you typically buy presents for at once, at the most presents-ish part of the year? Oh, these days, for Christmas, about a dozen -? I don't really keep a count (and sometimes have problems keeping a list!)

4. What sort of presents do you usually most enjoy receiving? Books from people who know what I like, stationery, food… I have a total soft spot for Danish butter biscuits which may be a little "I don't know what to get you" and very cheap, but I know I light up when I get them :)

5. How do you wrap presents? Paper or bag? Sellotape or just folding magic? Ribbon? Gift tag? Other? Gift bags and boxes any time I can. I am hopeless at wrapping with paper (I still tend to try and buy square pressies where possible just because they are easier to wrap) and they are usually only held together with acres of sticky tape. And adhesive gift tags are much much better than the tie on ones. Many of the presents also need posting so there's a lot of bubble wrap involved, but being our mother's children we one and all save and reuse it to the point where there is at least one piece - it has a pen mark on, which is how we know - that has been going the rounds of the family for years, and it's almost certainly not the only, maybe not even the oldest, one...
