Date: 2023-05-06 06:57 pm (UTC)I live in Aberdeen and I work near Elgin and have almost three hours on a bus to get to the village where my job is. When I'm in Elgin I have a short walk to the bus station, a bus journey to the village and a walk from the bus stop. I do have a set shift pattern so that helps to cut my travel times down a tiny bit but not by much.
When I work in Aberdeen (at my second job) I'll either get a bus from the end of my street to where I'm working or I'll walk there and back home when I finish.
2. What did you want to be when you grew up? Has it changed?
I wanted to play rugby league but when I started going to Headingley in the early 90s there wasn't a girls or women's game at all unlike now where that side of game is really coming into it's own. Songwriter and I did this for a while but stopped when I was getting ripped off and exploited.
3. What is your weirdest work/school/project related story?
Almost all of mine would break confidentially.
4. What is something you're closely familiar with that media always gets wrong?
I've worked in care for years both as a carer and a support worker (there are several differences between the roles) and if I come across it in a tv show or a film I'll instantly point out everything that's not been done properly. The biggest ones are always sitting/standing around with nothing to do (most shifts are quite busy!) dispensing medication and safeguarding/duty of care.
5. Describe the stuff on your desk/workspace.
A mess. There's my PC and keyboard, notebook, pot of pens, an old lamp (broken), a lamp (working), blank timesheets (for the second job) and some general bits of paperwork. Several cuddly toys on top of the radiator which I don't use for anything anyway. I need to tidy it up at some point, I just can't be arsed to at the moment.

My answers
Date: 2023-05-15 08:40 pm (UTC)1. What is your work/school commute like?
Summertime about 20 min each way, rest of the year 45min to 90 min. All due to volume of traffic and the number of accidents.
2. What did you want to be when you grew up? Has it changed?
I wanted to be a veterinarian when I grew up. Found out how many years of schooling it took and went into the IT field as a computer programmer instead.
3. What is your weirdest work/school/project related story?
Weirdest work/school related story is the strangest comments on my yearly review from a peculiar and irritating supervisor that rated my work on tasks positively but criticized me by stating: "her issue/problem is she thinks her duties & tasks are her responsibilities" Considering these three words are synonyms for each other I left that job not long after convinced my boss was an unintelligent asshat.
4. What is something you're closely familiar with that media always gets wrong?
Media always gets wrong how easy it is to hack into a computer system. Especially an isolated system that is not connected to the internet.
5. Describe the stuff on your desk/workspace.
Computer, monitors, keyboard, mouse, powerstrip, headphones, paper tablets, notepads, post its, papers, pens, pencils, highlighters, ceramic mugs, coaster, sodas, water bottle, condiments, spices, tea infuser, splenda, receipts, fan, phone, napkins, business cards, chopsticks, box of tissues, tape, scissors, stapler, change, hand sanitizer, hand lotion, paperclips, flyers, etc.
