Car, with as much walking as my dodgy knee will allow. But since retiring, we use the car a lot less anyway (as shown by our much much lower petrol costs, petrol is quite pricey here)
2. Are you satisfied with your current main mode of transportation (answer to question 1)? Why?
I do sometimes wish the bus network was better, if it was I'd use that.
3. Do you think you'll change your means of transit soon? e.g. buy a car, get rid of your car, walk more etc.? If so, why?
We are planning to buy a new car soon, ours is really quite old but we've been putting it off because we are fond of it - it's reliable and economical and feels good to drive.
4. If time, distance and money were not factors, how do you prefer to get from point A to point B?
Well, I am still waiting for them to invent teleport {taps foot}
5. What was your worst transit experience?
The one time I was in one of those small local planes and it hit a storm, thunder and lightning and downpour and up and down and up and down and up and down. For a wonder, I didn't throw up, but absolutely everyone else did... maybe (if I remember right) the stewardess :(

I drive a beat-up 2012 Ford Focus called Heapzilla. It has rust, a slightly bent back bumper, and a habit of developing mechanical issues at critical moments. It needs new summer tires (currently doing okay with its snow tires.)
2. Are you satisfied with your current main mode of transportation (answer to question 1)? Why?
No, because I'd rather not have to drive at all, and since I do have to drive, I wish I had something reliable. I never feel like I can count on Heapzilla, as it has let me down more than once.
3. Do you think you'll change your means of transit soon? e.g. buy a car, get rid of your car, walk more etc.? If so, why?
I've been looking for an affordable yet more reliable car for a couple of years. If I hadn't bought this condo, I might have bought a car instead. As it is, it's just super impractical in this town to not have a car at all. I honestly don't know what I'm going to do. There are people here who bike year-round, but we got like 15 inches of snow this week and I just don't see myself doing all I must do in weather like this on a bicycle. Even a nice bike, with nice winter gear. I don't even like winter.
4. If time, distance and money were not factors, how do you prefer to get from point A to point B?
Train. We don't have passenger rail. We don't have light rail. No tram. No subway. Nothing. We have a really bad bus system that is unreliable, infrequent, filthy, and it doesn't connect all the places I need to go. Like this weekend I need to go to a neighboring town to feed a friend's cats, several times, because my friend is traveling. There is NO public transit to his neighborhood.
5. What was your worst transit experience?
I got off a Greyhound bus in the dark at the wrong exit off the QEW. This was before cell phones. I was supposed to meet my boyfriend but I wasn't familiar with the area and I didn't know I was in the wrong place. I walked a pretty long way in the cold to a convenience store to call him on a pay phone and I couldn't even tell him where I was! It took him hours to find me, and by then I was a bit hypothermic. Took me all night to warm up.

Date: 2024-01-18 01:19 pm (UTC)Car - 2015 Subaru Outback. Living and working in the suburbs outside the beltway of Baltimore a car is a necessity. Public transportation would take me hours to get to work.
2. Are you satisfied with your current main mode of transportation (answer to question 1)? Why?
Love my Outback. We loved it so much we got a 2nd Outback and have his & her Outbacks. Hubby has a 2018 Subaru Outback. They get decent milage to be a daily driver, are roomy enough for five passengers, have ample cargo space for road trips to Florida, they fit my kayaks, and Outbacks are the only vehicle with a roof rack with integrated cross bars that can be deployed/undeployed in seconds.
3. Do you think you'll change your means of transit soon? e.g. buy a car, get rid of your car, walk more etc.? If so, why?
We are adding a Chevy Trailblazer and Chevy S10 pickup to our fleet. Father-in-law passed away and we are buying his vehicles from his estate. Daughter doesn't have a car and is dependent on her boyfriend or roommates for all transportation so having her use the Trailblazer will increase her independence and autonomy. And the pickup truck will be great for moving building materials and hardware store purchases for working on and fixing up sister-in-law's (formerly FIL's) house.
4. If time, distance and money were not factors, how do you prefer to get from point A to point B?
Looking forward to a day I can get in a car and say, "take me to the beach house" and go to sleep and wake at my destination.
5. What was your worst transit experience?
36-hour HELL flight to Reno over Thanksgiving one year. Multiple delays, & cancelled flights due to weather, sleeping in an airport overnight, etc.
