1. What did you want to be when you grew up?
2. Did you follow through? If not, what happened?
3. Is your life turning out the way you thought it would when you were a kid? If not, is it better or worse?
4. Paradoxes aside, if you could time-travel back to when you were 10 years old, what would you tell your 10-year-old self?
5. Do you think the child you were, would like the adult you've become?

Date: 2024-12-13 04:20 pm (UTC)1. What did you want to be when you grew up? A doctor.
2. Did you follow through? If not, what happened? No — turns out I hated chemistry, or at least chemistry as taught by my grade 12 chemistry teacher.
3. Is your life turning out the way you thought it would when you were a kid? If not, is it better or worse? I don’t think I really thought about how my life would be, beyond knowing I wanted a career and at least one child. I did both. I loved swimming and dance, but never figured I would do anything with either. I have ended up doing a lot of swimming and it is now my job, and I take the dance classes I bitterly regretted not having as a child. I haven’t yet figured out how to add piano back into my life in any consistent way. On balance, neither better nor worse, but different in some ways.
4. Paradoxes aside, if you could time-travel back to when you were 10 years old, what would you tell your 10-year-old self? There will be good times and bad times ahead. Find ways to get the most out of both, because neither will last forever.
5. Do you think the child you were, would like the adult you've become? The child I was would have been too busy roaring around the neighbourhood, making up plays in the back yard, or burying her nose in a book to pay much attention to adults, including me. If forced to think about it, she would probably consider me an okay adult.
