2. Which do you think is easier to do, being friends for many years, or being life partners for many years?
3. Have you ever walked away from someone you considered a friend?
4. If you had to choose between telling the truth and hurting a friend or lying and making them happy, which would you choose?

Mostly no, because I might make things worse (you never know how changes will impact and ripple) but my friend who suffers from early onset dementia... if I could have changed that, no matter what the results, I would go back and do it.
2 Which do you think is easier to do, being friends for many years, or being life partners for many years?
Having been single all my life, I wouldn't know. I had had friends who faded out of my life but I also have a few who have been there much of it.
3 Have you ever walked away from someone you considered a friend?
Deliberately and at a single point in time, no... there have been a few I have let slide as our lives and ideas drifted apart.
4 If you had to choose between telling the truth and hurting a friend or lying and making them happy, which would you choose?
Depends. Is it just a white lie that makes them happy and hurts no one ("I do like that dress', "yes, your daughter/garden/painting is lovely!") and nothing that I would have to remember to keep straight (because the main reason I am mostly truthful is my bad memory for facts, let alone fancies)? Then yes, I would fib. If it is something where the truth actually matters, and/or when avoiding it can trip me and them up later (and probably worser) then it will be the truth.
To be honest, my preferred option is to go with Miss Manners' advice... "If you can't be kind, be vague."
5 Which would you rather hear - the truth which will hurt, or the comforting lie?
See above. If it's my doctor with bad news, I want the truth; if it's people I have just read my own writing to in public, pleasepleaseplease lie for all you are worth. Everything else falls somewhere inbetween on a catch by catch can basis.
