1) What is the first song you remember from your childhood?
"Bad Case of Loving You" - Robert Palmer

2) What is the first music you purchased with your own money?
I remember buying Firehouse's "Don't Treat Me Bad" single and trying to convince my mother that they weren't heavy metal (they totally were!)

3) What's a piece of music that you know by heart?
Almost every single song I know the lyrics to, lol

4) What's a song that makes you turn off the music right away?
"Low Rider"

5) And why?
It just gets on my nerves, and stuck in my head :p

1) What is the first song you remember from your childhood?
It's kind of a toss-up between Skinamarink and Sandwiches; I still get both of these stuck in my head frequently.

2) What is the first music you purchased with your own money?
The "Grease" soundtrack, when I was eleven.

3) What's a piece of music that you know by heart?
There are so many songs that I know all of the lyrics to. I'm currently working on memorizing the sheet music for Drought by Vienna Teng (about 85% of the way there), so I can play and sing along.

4) What's a song that makes you turn off the music right away?
Cocoon by Jack Johnson.

5) And why?
As much as I love the song, it is very strongly associated with memories of an emotionally abusive ex-boyfriend. It's been about 5 1/2 years since we broke up, but I still find the song difficult to listen to sometimes.

I love her too! She's definitely my favorite artist. I got to see her two nights in a row when she was on tour 4 years ago, and this past summer I saw her musical in New York and she was sitting in the row behind me.

That's *awesome*. I'm bummed I never got to see her perform live. I got the impression that she wasn't really writing new music/touring anymore.

She doesn't seem to really be going on tour at all lately (but I keep hoping she will again). I saw her after "Aims" came out in fall 2013.

Questions from [community profile] thefridayfive...

1) What is the first song you remember from your childhood? My mum knew an awful lot of very old novelty songs, so it was probably one of those... the ones that I think were earliest were Ilkla Moor, I Know An Old Lady or umm, Run Rabbit Run

2) What is the first music you purchased with your own money? There would have been earlier ones, I'm sure, but the earliest I can remember is Night on Bald Mountain because I remember seeing Fantasia and just having to have it...

3) What's a piece of music that you know by heart? Just one???? There are a LOT (if I like something, I like to hear it often). Umm.... okay, have two rather different ones. Arvo Pärt's Cantus in memoriam Benjamin Britten (the first piece of his I ever heard so of course it has burrowed deep into my heart) and The Ying Tong Song (which is appallingly singable at the wrong moment, yes?)

4) What's a song that makes you turn off the music right away? Whitney Huston's I Will Always Love You.

5) And why? I just loathe and detest her singing style - always sounded like hog-calling to me - and this one just never goes away.
