1) Do you enjoy your work?
I do. I have a geeky, creative job that allows me to be online all day.

2) Are you overpaid or underpaid for the work you do (or last did)?
I think I'm paid fairly since I don't have people who report to me.

3) What one thing do you dislike most about your work?
Some external influencers from other departments. :p

4) What one thing would make your work life happier or more satisfying?
A private office.

5) Do you try to fit into your workplace’s culture? What does that entail?
Our team has a family/team-based approach, and that was something I was craving when applying and transferring to this office four years ago. Overall, the campus has a heavy focus on being genuinely inclusive, which is great.

I think I locked this one on my journal, so here are my responses:

1) Do you enjoy your work?

I do.

2) Are you overpaid or underpaid for the work you do (or last did)?

Hm. In a narrow, literal sense--just looking at other professors in my field, at a similar stage in their career--I probably fall about in the middle of the pay scale. In a broader sense, I'm lucky to do what I do full time, with a salary and benefits, especially when so many people are grossly underpaid as adjuncts.

3) What one thing do you dislike most about your work?

Meetings with colleagues. For people who work hard to get a lot done with our students during limited class time, we're surprisingly bad at running productive meetings with our peers.

4) What one thing would make your work life happier or more satisfying?

I know this answer to this one, because I recently got it--an office with a window! We share offices at my institution, which is fine, but as relatively recent arrivals, my office mate and I have been working in a closet-sized space in the interior of the building. Next year, we move up to a lovely north-facing window and a bit more real estate.

5) Do you try to fit into your workplace’s culture? What does that entail?

One of the things I love about my current workplace is its informality. There are all sorts of do and don'ts in the teaching arena, but apart from that, everything is very casual. Unlike other places I've worked, where there was often an unspoken dress code, or expectations of face time in the office, or pressure to socialize, or office politics of other sorts, the motto at the current institution is "You be you." It's lovely.

1) Do you enjoy your work?
Very much. Working in a library is my dream job. It is what I've always wanted to do, and it took a long time and hard work (including two jobs at one point!) to get there. There is a wonderful variety to what you do, there's always something to learn, you get to build friendships with regulars, newbies and other library staff. I like to think I've really come out my shell from a job stand point, embracing new opportunities and jumping at the chance to try fun things. Being an avid reader is also appreciated and actually helps in my duties. I could really go on here.

2) Are you overpaid or underpaid for the work you do (or last did)?
Definitely paid better than my last job, which is a nice little bonus to being in a job I love.

3) What one thing do you dislike most about your work?
Hardly a dislike, more a concern and it is the concern over the future of libraries. I love libraries and wholeheartedly believe there is a place for them in communities because they offer so much to people. However, it's always been a fight to protect them (something I am honoured that the communities I work in share too.)

4) What one thing would make your work life happier or more satisfying?
A guarantee that the libraries will stay and that I can remain, though these troubling economic times make that difficult for all, not just myself. The job itself is immensely satisfying.

5) Do you try to fit into your workplace’s culture? What does that entail?
My workplace is very warm and friendly because we are a team, my own branch and other libraries. I have helped out at other libraries and gotten to know the others that work there, so you really get a bond with other librarians and assistants. Though I sadly my health makes frequenting work night outs difficult, I do enjoy socialising and working with my fellow colleagues because we help and respect one another.
