1) Have you ever experienced a hurricane firsthand? No, thank god, and hope never to..

2) Have you ever experienced outside heat over 100 degrees Fahrenheit (38 degrees Celcius)? Yep, midsummer lasts for weeks here… and we invariably have at least a week to ten days of over 113F (45C). The sort of dry heat that feels like walking into a burning wall when you go outside.

3) When and where was the coldest temperature you have ever experienced? I'm not sure what it was, but we visited York on an overseas trip in early winter, and I still remember that as something way outside what we get where I live...

4) Is your household prepared for a possible power outage of two to seven days? Not properly… oh we'd manage (as long as it wasn't the abovementioned midsummer, I can't remember at all how we managed without aircon etc and don't want to find out again)

5) Do you have a go bag? No, but I do know where the important things are if I had to grab them…

Sending wishes for safety and minimal damage to my family, friends, and co-workers in the path of Hurricane Florence.

1. Have you ever experienced a hurricane firsthand?
No!

2. Have you ever experienced outside heat over 100 degrees Fahrenheit (38 degrees Celcius)?
Every single summer. Worse when I lived in Sacramento, because the entire month of July was guaranteed to be over 100. But even here, it's pretty warm. I think the hottest I can recall being in is 116.

3. When and where was the coldest temperature you have ever experienced?
I spent my early childhood at the foot of the Rocky Mountains, so I'm sure I've been in deeper cold - but in adult memory, -4 degrees is the coldest I've been in.

4. Is your household prepared for a possible power outage of two to seven days?
We're about halfway prepared. More so than the average American only because we have experienced natural disasters recently, complete with longer power outages. Where we fall apart is in the drinking water supply; the rest of it we'd muddle through.

5. Do you have a go bag?
Sure do! Still packed from last year's evacuation prep. Needs to be re-checked though.

1. Have you ever experienced a hurricane firsthand?

Thankfully no and much solidarity for anyone who has or is currently affected. I think it must be terrifying. As a cub TV reporter hub once hung on to a tree that was almost bent in half in Florida during a weather incident and was lashed by wind and rain while wearing oilskins and shouting about how everyone was being lashed by wind and rain…

2. Have you ever experienced outside heat over 100 degrees Fahrenheit (38 degrees Celcius)?

In Madrid in August once when it was pushing 102 and I was trudging across town to a job, but I was younger and coped with it better than I would now.

3. When and where was the coldest temperature you have ever experienced?

Swiss Alps maybe, where overnight temps in February were about -9C. I only knew it was chilly outside because I was staggering home from an après ski nightclub… ahem.

4. Is your household prepared for a possible power outage of two to seven days?

No. Perhaps if we end up with a no deal Brexit or the Thames Flood Barrier suddenly goes kablooey I might regret this...

5. Do you have a go bag?

No. I wish it wasn't so in 2018 UK but I have friends both here and in Europe who now have go bags (as did their parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents), but sadly that’s not because of weather.

I've got a lot to say over at my journal.

Very best wishes to those in the weather's path.
