1. Have you ever been in a hurricane or typhoon? Which one, when and where?
Hurricane Fredrick 1979 was my first that I remember. Fran and Floyd were major ones I remember dealing with heavily. And last child was born during Isabel.

2. Have you ever been near an erupting volcano? Which one, when and where?
NOPE! And honestly, do not want.

3. Are there tornadoes where you live? Has a tornado come near you?
I have only lived outside of Tornado Alley once in my life... and they had wind advisories near daily during some months anyway. I have literally been near enough to one to see it while in a car, close enough to hear one that wrecked the Clarksville Courthouse, and felt the pressure bumps as one crossed over our house and wrecked the one across the street.

4. Have you experienced severe flooding? When and where?
Dealing with Floyd. Dealing with hurricane Andrew's aftermath. Hurricanes bring floods, even in the middle of a drought... maybe especially then because the dirt just won't soak the rain.

5. What is the most extreme weather you have ever experienced?
Probably the hurricanes. As slowly freezing to death due to working in 15 degree weather is not so much extreme as OMFG, why didn't I take breaks inside.

1. Have you ever been in a hurricane or typhoon? Which one, when and where? // Many, at least to the point of being rained on. Don't remember the names of the ones from childhood. In recent years, Hugo, Irene, Sandy, Isaias.

2. Have you ever been near an erupting volcano? Which one, when and where? // Nope, never seen one.

3. Are there tornadoes where you live? Has a tornado come near you? // I lived in places that occasionally had tornadoes but never saw one.

4. Have you experienced severe flooding? When and where? // Not directly but in the region there was a lot of flooding from Hurricane Sandy.

5. What is the most extreme weather you have ever experienced? // Freezing rain, winter of 1987-88. I've never seen slipperier surfaces and it was freaking painfully cold...not the temperature but how it FELT, because it was below freezing but still liquid until it HIT you. Saw a cop car lose control at less than 1 mph, skittering sideways in ultra-slow motion and whacking into the side of the already-collided vehicles he'd come to investigate. He got out, holding onto the door, made the mistake of letting go and trying to walk. WHAM!!!!

1. Have you ever been in a hurricane or typhoon? Which one, when and where?

Not exactly. When I was a child, the week after we left Panama City, FL a hurricane destroyed the motel we stayed in. In 2006, we drove 200 miles through heavy rain from the remnants of a hurricane to get to the airport in Atlanta for a flight to Spain. In 2010 we were on a temporary assignment in Wilmington, NC and a hurricane was coming up the coast, we had already told people that we would not stay and ride out a hurricane, so when it seemed imminent, we drove to our permanent home.

2. Have you ever been near an erupting volcano? Which one, when and where?

We were in Hawaii on the big island in 2008 and drove down to see Kilauea, but it was erupting on forest service land, so the closest we could get was about a mile away.

3. Are there tornadoes where you live? Has a tornado come near you?

We occasionally have tornadoes, but are in the mountains, so that kind of keeps them out for some reason. I did grow up outside Atlanta and dealt with having to go into the basement of school a few times.

4. Have you experienced severe flooding? When and where?

We have been lucky and always lived on pretty high ground, so not personally. We did have to drive around it (and turn around multiple times) a couple of years ago when visiting my mother-in-law.

5. What is the most extreme weather you have ever experienced?

I have been in two blizzards, the first in 1992 in Boston. We saw all of the blizzard conditions and could not fly home for a couple of days. The second was within 3 months in Knoxville, TN. We went to bed and woke up with two feet of snow on the ground. Everything was shut down for a week.
